Tondla, 180ft., Chiapas, Mexico
Oct. 27 Tore apart two nests - probably this species - in a
hull homoeocia - "ISHCANAL" - both about
same size 14-15 inches long 10 inches in diameter.
at one end a round chamber of fine grass and
twigs + feathers chicken (?) and either ani
or grackle. Rest of nest made up of fine to coarse
dry twigs and pieces of bark, with some coarse grass.
Opening(s) not readily visible. Nests contained
no feathers - I mean that I could see; although
but my examination was hasty.
Nest probably put together something like this
chamber
opening?
tunnel ?
Oct. 31 Noted 5 birds on ground - hopping rather act-
wordly in big hops. Birds picking up nesting
material. Also found numerous birds in small
groups around a large dead tree which had
fallen over. One family centering around this tree,
another about 75 yds. away in same field and
another just across the road.
