K. Selander, 1953 H. chiapensis 11 6 mi. S Tonalá', 180 ft., Chia., México Oct. 26 Numerous in hedgerows from 3 - 6 miles S Tonalá' - rarely out of our hearing during the day. One of the most numerous of birds here. Preferred spots are the thick hedgerows bordering the road, but also present in clumps of bushes and small trees in fields. These being less common around Tonalá' may be due to fact that there much of the road real lushy hedgerow vegetation has been cleared so that only the larger trees remain. Beyond 3 mi. S the hedge- rows are thick, forming an understory about 10-15 feet in height beneath the larger trees - also bull-horn acacia is more abundant. This latter undoubtedly is the preferred tree for nesting - at 3 mi. S Tonalá I noted 5 nests in a single small tree. Near this tree - which was in a clearing there was a thick patch of small trees with many thorny vines on the ground and in the trees - a large flock of wrens here. Flocks run about 6-7 birds, maybe more. Likely to run into a flock anywhere along the road so habitat is not just one particular tree. Their habitat seems to be the lushy vegetation and small trees bordering postures and the road - also trees about casas. - A few coco- nut palms and bananas in the area 6 mi. S Tonalá - Some of the trees unidentified are:
