Oct.26 A nest in a tree overhanging a small stream or ditch at side of road. Have photo but light setting is wrong so will get another. Watched their nest for about ½ hour. 3 birds were working in the vicinity of the nest - specimens 1663-5, an ♀ ad., a ♂ jr. with very little arification in skull, and a ♂ having partially arified skull. Two birds seen at the nest at one time, one carrying a twig. Later two birds flew down to a log together - the third bird rather quite and inactive. No other birds in the immediate area, although I could hear others calling in field across the road. Only one nest in the area. Birds seen to work through vines and small branches of trees, moving rather slowly. Tail often is "half-cocked" over the back - ie. is raised from the horizontal like this but usually carried almost horizontally.
Birds seen to work at a variety of levels but are fond of rather low situations; frequently perch on bench posts - sometimes on logs on the ground, only found high in trees when disturbed by gun shots.
