R.K. Selander, 1953 H. chispensis 4 Tonalá, Chiapas, Mexico Oct. 13 to leave the immediate area where I first found the two birds. After collecting the two - apparently no other were there - I noticed nests in a small hollow [illegible] tree at almost the center of the area and surrounded by stagnant pools (color photo). Four fairly good-sized nests - about size of Hummingcapillus - and a smaller nest - 1/2 the size of others were together in the tree. I poked each nest but no birds flew out. Gonads of both birds - a ? or a ? were reduced and birds were in last stage of molt - these were the young of the year. Saw no other of these were in my morning hunt. This situation definitely favors red ground and standing water. This may be important. No humilis seen today. Oct. 24 See notes in itinerary section. Specimen 1650; R.
