K.Selander, 1953 72 Mojarras, 25 ft., Chiapas, Mexico Oct. 29 Took 3 photos - one looking NW from Mojarras along edge of the laguna; another looking SW over the laguna, and a third looking NE at the "monte" from near the railroad tracks. It will be important to investigate the area between the Sierra Madre and the ring of hills bordering the laguna. If wrens do not occur there this laguna is probably a good barrier because very little area of habitat is available along the narrow plains around the edge of the laguna. However, if wrens occur at La Barra they may range all along the beach area to Puerto Arista which would form an avenue of connection between humilis and nigricaudatus. Oct. 30 Rode out on horse early in the morning to the Rio Agua Dulce along the road to El Carmen and Ocuitlapa. Country is drier than south & SW of Tonala and is very similar to La Polka. Only wrens seen were a small flock (4 birds?) of chispensis 2 miles SSE of Tonala'. They were in a thicket of low brush and thick, tall grass along a fence along the road. Took one specimen. About 25 or 30 yards away in the same field I found a pair of small wrens. They were in an acacia like tree - not bull's horn although that was common in the area-. One bird was hammering the branch with its bill. Unable to get a specimen but the extent of red-brown of the = 2.6 miles SE
