Road probably OK for truck in dry season but not now. At a point about 3 miles S Tonalá we began finding numerous H. chiapensis. Took 19 specimens and then returned to Tonalá, arriving at about 1:00 P.M. Picked up letter from Pitelka containing 4 $25 checks. Put birds on ice, skinned until 8:30 and then went to bed. Oct.27 Skinning birds most of the day. Presidente of Tonalá promised a letter of introduction to the Presidente of Mojarros. Plan to collect at Mojarros tomorrow. Boy brought another C. chiapensis he got here in town. Oct.28 [Bonifacio's address in Tuxtla Gutiérrez =] [No. 83 Primera Poniente] Bonifacio just checked on train to Mojarros today. Someone told him it leaves Tonalá at 12:00 PM. - This doesn't agree with the schedule I- get from the printed time-table a few days ago. The Presidente of Tonalá gave me a letter of introduction and recommendation to the Agentes Municipales around Tonalá. I copied a map of the Tonalá-Mojarros region which the Presidente had stored away in a cabinet - apparently an old map - blue-print type. The Presidente's name is Lic. Juan Trinidad López.
