R.K. Selander, 1953 63 Oct. 25 SE side of Tonala, 180 ft., Chiapas, Mexico Bearded - specimen yesterday - Common. Calyptta formosa - few - one flock of 3. Helosylas chiapanensis Polioptila sp. - few Dendroica petechia - ? shot but not prepared. Setaria virginea - fairly common; specimen. Cassiculus melanicterus - common. Cassidix mexicanus - extremely abundant in town and on edges of town with cattle. Setorus gularis - common Chondastes grammacus - 2 seen - one of which was shot but not prepared. Rain in afternoon but clear by about 5:00 P.M. Went to see the Presidente at about 5:30 P.M. but he wasn't in. Looked for him at his office above the jail but he wasn't there. A soldier said he will be in at 10:00 A.M. tomorrow and that the policeman who acted as our guide would be in at 9:00 A.M. tomorrow. Got some info. on train schedules between here and Mojarra, one train - probably the "crock express" doesn't stop at Mojarra or any other towns between. There is however, a train which has the following daily schedule - I have been warned that it is uncertain as to time this train leaves the various stops - i.e. it is highly irregular.
