K. Selander, 1953 61 Tonalá, 180 ft., Chiapas, México Oct. 24 Between the two populations there. It is very important that I determine how far up in the foothills these lizards range so I can determine how effective is the barrier Laguna Mojarras as a barrier for humilis and nigricaudatus. So far I have taken only chiapensis around Tonalá. Mod Kolb claims humilis is also common - but is humilis more frequent in drier situations more coast-wise. I have taken chiapensis in moist habitat with standing pools of water beneath trees and bushes. We are going out south of Tonalá with our guide - who is a member of the police force of Tonalá. The Presidente seems interested in me and my work. He is making a good try at informing me with his farms, car, etc. and I am eating it up for sake of public relations. Apparently no one in Tonalá speaks any English. The Presidente knew 4-5 words but his Spanish is good and slow. Oct. 25 Bought formalin for reptiles + 2 bottles - 2 pesos for formalin, 6 for the two bottles. Sent telegram to Albany giving my address. Send Bonifacio to buy a large jug of "agua pura" which will be great for me since I haven't had a drink of water in days. Bought alcohol & cotton for lizards.
