Santa Rita, Chiebas, Mexico
Oct. 14 Bonifacio has suggested that Sr. Helfego lied about
the "curracos" here at Santa Rita in order to interest me
in hiring him as a guide. This may be true. Certainly
Caloitta is very rare here, at least at this present
time. In afternoon I collected a Piaya cayana,
and a Trogon violaceus. Observed Thraupis albes,
a male Phaeoeeastes guatemalensis, turkey vultures,
a Circus hudsonicus flying over camp, a large
flock of parakeets or parrots headed NW high in
the air over Camp.
Bonifacio has arranged for Sr. Ruben Dias to have
the horses here at camp at 8:00 A.M tomorrow. We are
down to one can of meat and one of vegetables. Sr.
Helfego left us for San Fernando at about 1:00 P.M --
I payed him 30 pesos for the 5 days he was with us.
I understand that Sr. Ruben Dias will want about
60 pesos for the horses and other details having to
do with hauling our gear from San Fernando to Santa
Rita and back. - I also sent a note to Ruben Dias
instructing him to arrange to have a taxi at San
Fernando at 11:00 A.M. tomorrow to take me to Tuxtla.
I took some color photos around camp and while out
hunting but light is very poor for color so they may
not work out too well.
