July 26 Rio Mutzlitlan, 4000 ft., 20 mi. N Atotonilco, Hiedalgo, Mexico.
Went to bed at 10:30. Very tired from long hike today.
Stomach acting up a bit.
July 27 Up at 8:00; very stiff and weak; stomach upset.
Hunted around camp for 2 hours. Collected
8 Wrens (C. poioosus) and 1 brown towhee. Noted
the following species not seen yesterday: Acorn Woodpecker,
(Dendrocopos
pair in walnut tree); [illegible] scalaris (pair in walnut
Dendrocoptes)
tree); flicker (sp.? heard); Lomb reports the following
additional species as being present; hummingbird (sp.?);
Canyon wren (heard near a rock slide); Phyllosciza
cinerea (seen); Cardinal (1 collected by Lomb's helper);
curve-billed thrasher (1 collected in mosquitoes); Crested
Flycatcher (sp.?)(1 collected); Wood Pewee (heard;)

goldfinch (Species sp.?)(1 collected); black-headed
grosbeak; Setornus fruticulatus (1 collected by Lomb); Hepatic
Tanager, white-winged dove (Lombi reports one flying
over the arroyo.), 5 Skinned lizards in afternoon. The
weather good today, no rain. Ponies and trucks are
crossing the river at the ford regularly - some stuck and
tons to be pulled out. Broke the glass on the Coleman
lamp last night, so we are not collecting insects now;
will pick up a new glass in Mexico City in a few days.
July 28 - Hunted upstream from 8:00 until 12:00. Collected 4
C.joiosus, 1 Phyllosciza cinerea, 1 blue grosbeak, 1
Sporophila torqueta, 1 Setornus wagleri, and 1 Flycatcher
(an immature wood pewee?). Wrens not easily found
