R.K. Selander,
1952
July 23 Irapuato, 5700 ft., Guanajuato, Mexico.
Arrived at Chester Lamb's home in Irapuato at
2:00 P.M.; met Lamb and his family; talked until about
6:00 P.M. Then Bonnie and I drove to a locality
4 mi. NW Irapuato, 5700 ft. where I hunted for
C. brunneicapillus on hillside of tuna cactus and
trees which Lamb calls "palto blanco". Collected
cactus
two wrens. Lamb says C. brunneicapillus rather
common around Irapuato in cactus areas.
Returned to Lamb's home at 7:30. Lamb and his
Mexican helper, "Julio",* plans to accompany us in the
field for an indefinite period, but as he will not
be ready until the day after tomorrow, we will
remain in Irapuato tomorrow, hunting again for cactus
wrens. Lamb showed me a specimen of C. jocosa
which he collected in Nayarit. - Bonnie and I set up
our cots in Lamb's front room; retired around 10:30.
July 24 - Hunting again 4 mi. NW Irapuato from 9:00 until
about 1:00 P.M. Collected 5 C. brunneicapillus, 4
Pipilo fusces, and a number of lizards. Returned
to Lamb's in the afternoon and skinned the birds.
July 25 - Up at 8:00 A.M.; breakfast at Lamb's; left at 9:15,
Chester Lamb and "Julio" leading in Lamb's car as
we headed for Mitztitlan, Hidalgo. Drove until
4:30, when we arrived at the Rio Metztitlan,
about 20 mi. N Atotonilco, Hidalgo. The bridge over
the river has been down for six years, so that it
is now impossible to get to the town of Mitztitlan
