K. Selanders, 1952 July 21 35 mi. S El Entorques, 5000 ft., Durango, Mexico. The area is just beyond a summit of about 6000 ft., and in the foothills overlooking a narrow valley which lies at about 4000 ft. Dominant vegetation is a large bush-like woody plant having long un-branching, tendril-like shoots extending upward from the base; about 10 ft. in height. Cestillo here grow like this. (see picture of the plant). Other associated plants are low, thick thorny bushes of Fougeria splendens and mesquite. Several kinds. Some cactus including one or two tree-cacti of the chella-type. Birds rather common in this formation. Mockingbird (common, singing); Desert sparrow - found in thorn shrubs; 1 collected; molting.; 2 Texas nighthawks seen at dusk; Plumbeco grueatcher present; 2 turkey vultures seen. Collected some Meloidae, including a Pyista and numerous June beetles. Collected one Bufo Sineus. July 22 Up at 6:30; hunted for about one hour. Shot one corned owl on cliff (a pair seen). 1 Texas nighthawk flew over camp at 8:30 A.M. Unidentified large flycatcher with rich buff underparts. Several unidentified sparrows, possibly a varied hunting, seen. One hummingbird observed. As regards cactus wrens, found 2 nests (empty) within the only two tree-cacti noted in the area. No birds seen; no calls heard. After C. brunneicepsillus may be present, but cactus is too sparsely distributed for wrens to occur in any number. Just noted a
