First Mexican Trip
U.S. Highway #89 from Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County to
- 15 mi. N Orderville, 6400 ft., Kane Co., Utah.
July 16 left Salt Lake City at 12:00 P.M.; Bonnie with me in truck;
Richard and Tolane Selander following in their car.
Drove directly to locality north of Orderville, where we
made a dry camp along the road on dry flat. Scrub
(Quercus gambelii)
Oak stands nearby. Chipping sparrows only birds noted.
Picked up two small tools on dry ground under camp

July 17 U.S. Highway #89 from 15 mi. N Orderville to 3 mi.
N Prescott, +4000 ft., Yavapa County, Arizona
Left camp at 8:00. Stopped in Flagstaff, Ariz. from 3:00 to
5:00 P.M. while Dick had his car checked. Arrived at
present camp (dry) at 8:00 P.M. Harned larks abundant
along dirt road and in fields of low scrub and cactus
vegetation. We are now camped along the road
just below the pinyon-juniper belt. No unusual
birds noted during the day. Collected a number of
June beetles and other insects at light tonight. - Will
attempt to reach El Paso tomorrow, stopping at
Phoenix to pick up Yale Selman, who will ride with
Dick and Tolane.
