Feb. 8 not the loud harsh tones I heard given by [illegible]. The bird searched over piles of old lumber near the nest and flew into a small low bush. Seen once carrying nest material but when frightened the bird dropped the nest material and hid. To this particular individual showed no real concern for the presence of people about the service station, nor for the sound of cars running about, quite a contrast to the wary behavior of the birds in Los Angeles.
Returned to Berkeley, stopping for the night in Los Angeles. Arrived in Berkeley at 11:00 P.M., February 9.
