R.K.Selander, 1953 6 Feb.4 12 mi. east of El Rosario, Baja California. cactus. Many types of desert shrubs here. California quail present in large flocks. Calling almost continually. Shot two. A few cactus wrens seen. Thrashers are common. Shot a Sage thrasher and noted the large brown species seen at San Telmo. White-crowned sparrows are common as are brown towhees and guat- catchers. Saw a marsh hawk, Continued up the road to a point + 22 miles east of El Rosario. You can get water at a well here. The country is much the same from 10 miles E to 20 miles E of El Rosario so I decided against continuing any farther and made camp at a point 19 miles east of El Rosario, parking just off the road. Picked up a cactus wren's nest just before dusk which I am going to examine. Ate dinner at 6:30. listened to radio for about an hour. Feb.5 Up at 6:00. Hunted around camp. Took 4 Calif. Quail, a brown towhee, a sage thrasher, and 3 cactus wrens. At 11:00 I drove down the canyon to a point 15 mi. E El Rosario, 1200ft. and began preparing specimens. Saw two red-tailed hawks near a large nest about 30 ft. up in a circo on the hillside. Shot-catchers and white- crowned sparrows are common. Saw a woodpecker
