Troglodytes brunneicollis
August 1 La Puerta, 7000 ft., 31 mi. SW Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico.
Obtained a specimen in - fairly open brush beneath
oak tree near a dirt road. Two birds were seen
together, one of which was collected. I am not certain
of the niche preference of this wren but it is apparently
similar to that of T. adelon of the western U.S. (Utah).
August 13 15 mi. N Cuernavaca, 8900 feet, Morelos, Mexico.- One
individual came to a squeak in low brush beneath
fine-oak tree and was obtained. Saw another in
similar situation. Both birds frequenting semi-
open places - edge of thicket.
August 14 Pair squeaked up in thicket beneath a very large pine
tree. Very active and excited. Notes a soft "cha-cha-cha"
not unlike that of C. megalopterus but much softer,
less harsh; more "house-wren-like".
August 15 Four different pairs observed - all in dense
thickets. "Cha-cha-cha ...." notes given frequently,
ofter quite loudly. Very inquisitive.
