Camphylorhynchus megacephalus
August 13 15 mi. N Cuernavaca, 8900ft., Morelos, Mexico.
encounter with them. I shot one and at once the other began the excited "chat-de-lit" call and moved down in the oak tree just above my head.
Easily shot three more before the flock moved away
and became silent. The noise of the gun seems not to frighten them much, but does excite them to calling and increased activity. After this encounter the remaining birds seemed definitely wary and would not respond to my imitations of their notes, although I could get near to them by quietly sneaking up on them. When they saw me, they invariably became silent and moved away.
Many similarities between the behavior of these wrens and those observed at La Puerta, Veracruz,
but did not hear the "chudt" note nor the "shree."
"Chup" note may be the wren's equivalent of "chudt".
these birds somewhat more silent and warier.
Notes on specimens: Eye color same as those at La Puerta, Veracruz. legs and feet color different,
those at La Puerta being a definite purple(?) while those examined today had the tarsi a pale, dirty yellow and the feet gray or pale blue.
