Heron sp.
August 24 Pie de la Cuesta, 20 ft., Guerrero, Mexico. - Several of these medium-sized, chunky heron in mangroves. Bill has proportions of that of the black-crowned night heron, yet plumage is blue. Top of head whitish with some brownish streaking. Some long plumes on back reaching to tail. Feet & legs yellowish. Plumage is apparently adult. Body size same as black-crowned night heron.
