Sept. 5 Rio Mezquital, 6850 ft., 12 mi. NE Durango, Durango, Mexico,
a movement in the cotton wood above me. By use
of the hand later I was able to locate an Otus
asius (a a or ? found out later) perched on a large
branch of the tree about 25 feet above the ground.
Collected this individual. Later, heard owls [of this

Sept. 6 Rio Mezquital, Durango to San Pedro Riva,
4000 ft., 25 mi. SE Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Drove straight through arriving at San Pedro Riva
about 8:00 P.M. Camped at some spot as we

northern Durango I could see little Cortes from
the highway - An area of wide, scattered, low, dwarf
