August 25 "Montosa Island", sea level - 30 ft., Laguna Coyuca, Guerrero,
Mexico.
Camphylarches humilis - common - singing!
Turdus sp. - Common. Same species as on mainland.
= rufo-pallidus
Cassiculus melanicterus - fairly common.
Icterus spurius - In large flocks. One specimen taken.
Combird (??) - large flock - one taken = T. aeneus
Cassinix mexicanus - common
Collected three lizards (small) on rocks at shore.
Saw 2 lizards about 15 inches in total length;
Heavily built. Very wary, slipping into holes between
large boulders as I approached.
Returned to bungalow at 4:00 P.M. Continued
writing field notes. Prepared six specimens of lizards.
August 26 Hunting until 11:30. New birds for the area include
Aratinga canicularis - flock of +/- 100; 4 taken.
Aimophila traillii acuminata - one taken; 3 others seen.
Icterus sp.? - one taken; larger than specimen of
Icterius taken August 23. = Icterus pustulatus.
Noted a single magpie-jay (saw and took one Aug. 21)
Collected an Empidonax?, a Cassiculus melanicterus
and 4 C. humilis. Skinned 13 birds today.
Identified Volatinia jacarina by shooting one (not
prepared). Quite common in thorn-scrub along
the foot hills (at least)
and in drier fields and open areas.
