R.K.Selander, 1952 48 August 23 PiedelaCuesta, 20ft., Guerrero, Mexico * Deturra sp? - jeminale male taken. Small species = j. tenuis Agelaius phoeniceus Also two other species of Caradex mexicanus Deturre present, both harge. One in j.guloris? If the wood-creeper I took today is X.flanigaster, yes! I must have misidentified the other wood-creeper which I took in the highlands around Mexico City. Also collected 2 small lizards on sand near mangroves, and two large lizards in the mangroves. The latter species enters the water - swimming by violently swinging the tail to a fro - actually stands upright with only the tail in the water as it swims! Returned to Iuengalon at 11:30. Preparing specimens until 7:00 P.M. Noted a few gekkos out on walls before dark today, so apparently they are partially diurnal, August 24 Shot a cormorant at 8:00 A.M. which was flying over the laguna. Hired a flat-bottomed row-boat to retrieve the bird, which had landed out in the laguna. Proved to be an adult & Phalacrocorax alivaceus. Prepared it as a skeleton. Took a shot at a small tern, but missed. Continued in boat along edge of laguna. On Anhinga anhinga sitting in mangrove tree at water's edge. Shot at it with half-load (no large shells with me at the time) but failed to injure it; it circled over the laguna and took. Took another shot but no luck. Later in the day I
