August 20 Cuernavaca, Morelos to Pie de la Cuesta, 30ft, Guerrero,
Mexico.
two hour stop near Mexcala, Guerrero in desert
area (Arid /Other Tropical zone?) to collect meloids.
Got 4 or 5 species in one place. Searched for [illegible]
cactus wrens (C. jocosus) for short while. Heard
(C. jocosus ?) or C. humilis
one! but unable to locate. [Saw a 7 also mexicana
near Sacasoyuca, Guerrero]. Near Mexcala noted
a white-winged dove and several parakeets (sp.?).
Birds very rare here. Noted a flock of sparrows
in mesquite bushes - like a zonotrichia, but
light brown dorsally then Z. leucophrys and
black & white head markings much more bold
and distinct. = Aimophila agammata (=ruficauda)
Notes rather wren-like. Saw many
S.inea.
Made a short stop 8 mi. S Mexcala, 3000
ft, Guerrero where I hunted about 20 minute
for wrens. (There are 7 June skins of C. humilis
in the Moore Collection from 7 mi. S Mexcala.)
Saw no wrens - Took photographs of the area.
Noted here white-winged dove, [Columbina aurifrons,
and parakeets (sp.?)] -- Continued along highway,
noting ravens (sp) at Zumpango.
Stopped at Chilpancingo and located Wilmet W.
Brown at the Hotel Mexico. Talked with him for
two hours. He said cactus wrens are uncommon
around Chilpancingo, but "abundant" at Pie de
la Cuesta". He has a collection of ~ 2000 skins
of Guerrero birds which he is trying to sell.
