August 15 15 mi. N Cuernavaca, 8900ft., Morelos, Mexico.
It light. A lone bat (small species) flying through
junes around our tent. Went to bed at 9:00.
August 16 Up at 7:30; breakfast, and then booked truck for
trip to Mexico City to see about check. Weather
good, sky clear. Eye still swollen, but no pain.
Passed through place where La Cima should be on way
to Mexico City, but saw no sign "La Cima". This is
the locality of Xenospiza braillyi; since Pitelka noted
many [crossed out] gram plants which Pitelka mentions
in his paper. Will stop and hunt for Xenospiza on
way down to Acapulco. Region around La Cima
formed quite a rift, but some patches of forest still
present on some of the hill tops. A rather flat
expanse at the summit, so that it is difficult
to tell exactly where the true summit point is.
Will inquire about location of La Cima.
Drove on into Mexico City. Embassy postal desk
closed Saturdays & Sundays, so decided to head
for a camp spot somewhere west of Toluca,
Mexico, finally camping at ----
Lengua de Vaca, 9500 ft., Mexico, Mexico
Set up tent just off road about 1/4 mile east of "Lengua de
Vaca" sign in stand of fire. Went hunting for about
a hour - no signs of wrens. Should get wrens (C. megalepterus)
here since there are 10 October skin from here in the
Moore Collections. A good forest & fire with not much
brush underlayering. Country very hilly so that hunting,
