August 13
15 mi. N Cuernavoca, 8900ft., Morelos, Mexico
Up at 6:30. Sky rather clear - not too cold. Went
hunting until 11:00 within a radius of 1/2 mile of
camp. Birds very abundant everywhere - best hunting
I have had in Mexico. Noted the following species
(* indicate specimen(s) collected): Cyanocitta
stelleri (one bird); Turkey vulture; *Oriturus
superilocus; *Xiphorhynchus flavigaster (only one
seen); Athletes viridisipes; Athletes (pileatus ?);
*tanager (#?); *Pifilo erythrophthalmus; Troglodytes
brennicolli; *Ergadion ruber; Toxostoma opelatum;
Catharus #.?; *Comphorhynchus megalopterus; large
flycatcher (genus, species ?); Parus seateri ?. Wrens (Camby.)
fairly common here. Returned to camp and skinned
15 birds, finishing at 6:00 P.M. Rain started falling
lightly around 5:00 P.M.
This spot is a fine camp site as there is a minimum
of disturbance from Mexicans. Only saw two or three
people during the day. Many trucks and cars passing_
on the highway. Rather cold tonight, rain still falling
very lightly at 8:15 P.M.
August 14
Hunted from 8:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.; unable to get any wrens.
The vegetation here is much more shrubby than I formerly
suffered. Many deciduous shrubs forming thick cover
beneath the trees. Collected a brown towhee (supposed
to get this at this high altitude), a hummingbird
(#.?), an adult female Tanagra elegantissima,
a Junco phaeonotus, an Oriturus superilocous,
