Seib, R. 1985 Isla San Marcos to La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico 6 May Considering Callisaurus and Coleonyx and Phyllodactylus, reptiles are the abundant vertebrates on the island. However, I leave with the impression that, at least at this time of year, life is scarce here. Vegetation is scarce; mammals were not observed. I saw no scats, no snake tracks. I saw no racers. I feel lucky to have caught three snake species (although individuals were scarce) and the C. scitaki. I will be anxious to visit the island again on my way back in June, if time permits. We drove to La Paz, arriving 1900 at the Hotel Presidente where everyone remembers me well. They did not seem to notice that I was filthy, disheveled, and reeked of perspiration two days old. We hit the night driving road S of La Paz by 2000. Traffic was generally heavy all night, and snakes were scarce. The temperature was mild, but warm. Saw many Chilomeniscus mostly stramineos, some cinctus; 2 DOR Lampropeltis getulus; a DOR Hypsiglena; and picked up a live Pituophis just N of El Triunfo at 2315. Arrived hotel at 2300. I made us each one bloody mary with Ethanol, then we passed out cold.
