Seib, B. 1985 Berkeley to Cataviña, Baja California Norte, México 30 April- At moon today I left with friend Doris 1 May Jew, an accomplished photographer. We drove in separate cars as far as Tdl., then continued to San Juan Capistrano in my Nissan 4x4. On May 1 we crossed the border. Saw about 15 DOR Pituophis m. annectens between Tijuana and El Rosario. Saw several DOR Masticophis flagellum, and 11.1 mi N San Quintin saw a DOR Arizona elegus. Windy and cool, partly cloudy all the way. My objective was to collect Pituophis between 19 and 45 mi SE El Rosario. Sam Sweet has determined that annectens and bimacris may contact in this zone, based on specimens from my May '83 trip. On that trip I noted the distinct leech of Pituophis in this area, although I had been picking up adults commonly throughout the day. Sam thinks they are different species and we're trying to find it, and where, a contact zone exists. It was a cold night with a big moon and we only picked up one DOR Arizona 45.7 mi SE El Rosario. We made camp at Cataviña. It's Doris' first trip out of the country and she found it quite beautiful.
