to Montepio. We passed the hotel Playa Azul on the edge of town on this road. Visited Playa Escondida on the way out and rented myself a room, because I didn't know if there would be room for me at the field station. The room was only 600 pesos and the restaurant overlooked the Caribbean from a precipice, affording a spectacular view. Made on toward the field station. Upon arriving we learned that we were not expected and that William Lopez-Farment had forgotten to make out reservations. He and Rodrigo, his student, were to meet us here this afternoon, but never showed. We were lucky that the administrator allowed us to spend the night. 10 dollars each, including 3 meals a day. A very nice station with excellent facilities and food! I'm really impressed with this field station and only with Mexico had more. If they were looking for another, but much more vast forest, they could make a station in Atlantic lowland Chiapas on the road below Montebello. Of course they would have to put a stop to the current and rapid deforestation in
