Seib, R. 1984 Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico 19 Oct We spent 2 hours in the zoo, while my truck was being burgled. For some reason, only my knives, snake bite kit, and Allison's binoculars were stolen. We were extremely lucky. Went back to the room and picked for an hour, then drove out past Beriozabal looking for a site to net bats. I was using a machete to cut an Acacia branch to stake the net, managing only to imbed a 3/8 inch spine deep into my palm. After netting, drove to the hospital in Tuxtla where a black Haitian from New York did major damage to my hand while digging out the spine. Two coedines and two bloody mary's and I slept. Tuxtla Gutierrez to Comitlan, Chiapas, Mexico 20 Oct Woke up 6:45, had breakfast at the Bonampak, wrote field notes, and prepared to meet Kiki Kapany at the airport where she was to arrive at 9:40. She missed that flight, so I had to meet her at 11:20. She arrived sick with a 102° fever, so I drove straight to Comitlan and put her to bed for 2 days. The hotel is a new one on the Pau Am hwy, is cheap, and has agua caliente. Allison and I drove out to Monte Bello, but didn't see anything.
