Seib, R. 1984 Benito Juarez Segundo to Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico The caves here. Left at 1600 and drove to Hotel Calli just east of Tehuantepec. Tehuantepec to Cerro Baul, Chiapas, México 16 Oct Woke up late and had breakfast. Prepared to spend the night at Cerro Baul by purchasing soft drinks, as we could not find water. Drove to Rizo de Oro and inquired as to the location of Cerro Baul at an aborretes near the dirt road. The proprietor pointed out to me Cerro Baul in the distance and then pointed out a closer peak called Armitráno which I probably would have thought was Cerro Baul if he hadn't told me. Cerro Baul looked close, but it took over an hour to drive to the colonia. Upon reaching the colonia, a small town with a few houses, I redized that I had passed up the trail leading to the palm forest. Very fortunately a rancher and his workers were improving the road and I learned that the trail to the palm forest left from approximately the point where they were improving the road. This area is a gorge, approximately 3 km before the town and 1 km after the ranch. However, a guide is essential the first time someone climbs Cerro Baul.
