Drank three beers, wrote half a letter, and slept well. 4 Oct La Paz, Baja California Sur, México Woke up well rested. Had a rather groty breakfast in the hotel restaurant with many cups of very good coffee. Spent the lion's share of the day getting a car permit for the ferry to the mainland. To procure a car permit is not simple [illegible] or straightforward. It involves going to three separate buildings scattered throughout town. In one building called "Department of 'Hacienda'," you apparently register your vehicle with "Migracion". You take that registration to a building twelve blocks away which is also marked Department of "Hacienda" and they put stickers on your car. Then you go to a travel agent and make a reservation for the ferry from Cabo San Lucas to Puerto Vallarta because the office of Transportation where you buy the ferry ticket from La Paz to Mazatlan is not able to help with plans to go to Puerto Vallarta.
