Seib, R. 1983 Berkeley to San Diego, California 4 May I drove with my friend KeeYong to the border and spent the night in a motel. We are hoping to reach the pine forest in the northern mountains of Baja. It's been a very late and rainy year and I want to look for blotched Ensatina, although there are no specimens available. San Diego to San Felipe Baja (California Norte, Mexico) 5 May Upon waking I could see thick rain clouds over the Sierra Juarez area. It looked good. I planned to drive to San Felipe, thinking that the highway goes through the mountains. I was wrong. The road is mostly at sea level the whole way. But I could see snow in the Sierra San Pedro Martir as we approached the coast road to San Felipe. The 245 km road, hwy 9, to San Felipe comes close to the high peaks of the
