Seib, R. 1982 Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico 23 Aug After our showers, we both had to put on two shirts and long pants and turn off the air conditioner. We dispensed with the animals. Afterwards we tried to air out the room because it smelled like formalin. Just outside the back door, I saw a butterfly so large I thought it was bat. But it was daytime. The width of each wing was fully 5 inches. Allison agrees with me on this point. The wings were basically deep blue, with a strip of yellow near the tips which was bordered by deep blue. We went to an umbrella table near the restaurant & played cards and drank beers. I beat Allison at hearts, but then she beat me at spades. We ate dinner, went back to the room, and fell asleep about 22:00. 24 Aug Woke up, ate breakfast, & had an hour long swim at the pool. Shot into town to buy ice, Skipped on out to San Jeronimo. I was determined to get caecilians even if I had to spend all day there. I had to spend all day there. There was little success. I personally caught 2 caecilians in the soil under some garbage.
