Seib, R. 1982 Tapachula, Chiapas, México 22 Aug Woke up late, breakfasted, & lounged all day at the pool. I realized that I wouldn't have a Monte Perla sample tomorrow because I couldn't arrive there in the morning when they normally collect. So we drove out to the Fincas at 17.00. to inform them of our intentions to collect 3 more days. It was raining at San Jeronimo and we sat in the car for a long time. After 10 minutes one man finally ran up to the car to see what we wanted. I said I would come by 3 more days to buy snakes, not planning to tell them until tomorrow that I also wanted caecilians, frogs, & lizards. It wasn't raining hard at Monte Perla, so I walked down to the Finca houses. 3 persons had collected a total of 7 snakes and one man brought me a large Rana. I told them I would come by for 3 more days to buy snakes & that I would also buy "ranitas" and "lagartijas" for a peso each. Most of the people wanted plastic bags, so a group of about 40 persons walked with me back to the car. After passing out the bags, I talked with them for about 10 minutes. These people are so calm, so
