20 Aug at the hotel, finishing by 20.30. Had a relaxed dinner & passed out.
21 Aug Woke at 8.40 & had breakfast. Spent several hours at the pool, because today is a "free" day. Our plan is to take a picnic lunch-dinner over the Motozintla Road to where it is semi-arid. Left Tapachula 14.30. It's only 40 Kilometers to Huixtla.
It was rainy or foggy all the way to the crest. When we got over the crest, we could see down to Motozintla but we could also see a thick stratus layer extending from the ridge all the way down the ravine to the north. I could immediately see that our picnic lunch would not be drenched in sun.
Rather, we would probably be drenched with rain. We had a mildly wet picnic lunch on the Rio Grijalva. We became surrounded by the personnel of a military truck, one on the bridge, a couple more on the bank.
The must have thought we were trying to steal the Grijalva. Rapidly ate our picnic lunch. Jumped into the car to drive because it was raining. Drove all the way to Comalapa, seeing nothing. Left Comalapa 18.15 & drove back south up the ravine to within 2 km of the Government checkpoint. By the time we turned
