Seib, R. 1982 Tapachula, Chiapas, México 14 Aug need to go back. Went to sleep very late. Tapachula to Motozintla rd., Chiapas, México, and return. 15 Aug Woke up at 9:00, ate breakfast, went to the pool for a half hour, and then headed out to the Motozintla rd. to day collect. First drove out the Nueva Alemana Rd. to see how it looked. There will be no need to return because there are few trees left and little litter on the ground. Drove up the Huitlá Rd. Stopped on a side rd. 20.1 km from Huitlá. Saw Rana macroglossa, buto canaliculus and many Ameiva, Basiliscos and Ctenosepala . Drove up to the ridge and over. Looked for a spot to collect in the pine forest, but it was too steep in most places. Stopped once, but found nothing to turn. Drove down beyond Motozintla, past a govt. checkpoint, and into a semi-arid gorge below the mountains with pine-oak forest at top. The road parallels the Rio Grijalva all the way to at least Comalapa which is how far we drove. We had a coke in Comalapa and started to drive slowly back toward Motozintla.
