14 Aug of snakes on the floor behind the seat.
After the work was finished it was still
early, only 16:00, and we decided to
drive out to Huixtlá and up the road
to Motozintla to see if it would
rain for good night-driving. The road
is very interesting, far less cut over than
the roads near Topachula. There is
considerable forest all the way up
the road until one reaches the
first coffee plants. There is very
little coffee, also. Maize predominates.
After about 20-24 km. the road is
more cut over on both sides. It
was dark (21:00) by the time we
drove 30 km., so we turned back to
night drive. There was a slight
drizzle for a few km and the
road was wet. It is paved all this
way. In this 2-3 km we saw two
frogs which escaped and an adult
Geophis cancellatus which Allison grabbed. We
drove all the way back on a dry road
seeing just one Buta canaliferus. Upon
returning to town we heard music coming
from the discoteque next to the Lapa
Lapa, so we checked it out. We won't
