12 Aug learned that no one had collected any snakes. So we then drove to Montepelia and were surprised to find that the people had [illegible] 19 snakes waiting for us. We arrived after the rains and the afternoon was serene and peaceful. This took much of the bite out the experiences of the last 24 hours. Drove back to Tapachula and ate dinner. I told the people at both Fincas that I would not be back tomorrow and did not know when I would be able to return. It was not easy to fall asleep at the Hotel Fenix. The air conditioner didn't keep us cool, but about every 5 min. it made a a sound as though someone were trying to break into the room. This scared me and woke me all night. We finally put on sandals and took showers in our clothes so we could cool by evaporation. That worked and we eventually slept.
13 Aug Woke up very poorly rested. I went to the town square and had a warm, flat coke for breakfast. I was afraid to brush my teeth in the Fenix, so my mouth felt fairly scummy. Went back
