Seib, R 1982 Tapachula, Chiapas, Mxico 9 Aug agreed to help me. About a dozen men and boys walked with us to an area of zocal choosing near where I have worked before (up a hill to a large flat area. We walked along a narrow trail for a long time. At one point, an adult coral snake, Micrurus nigrocinctus crossed the path in front of the person in front of me. I quickly pinned it with my boot and held its neck with knees. I injected it with Nembutal to kill it and finally placed it in a plastic bag. I already knew that this species was diurnally active at this site, but it's very impressive to see one of these snakes crossing across my path! We then proceeded further and decided to make a quadrat in a stand of mature coffee with large shade trees. We started with a 30m by 30m quadrat. This quickly turned into a disaster because the nylon rope that we had bought instantly became hopelessly tangled. It took nearly an hour to un- tangle enough to make four sides
