19 Sept. Berkeley to Corral Hollow, San Joaquin Co., and return
still found several more Pituophis, either
asleep or deth. I collected 11 Pituophis
and found a 12th smashed. All 14 snakes
were young - no adult snakes were
seen. Returned to Berkeley by 23:40
and killed, tagged, weighed, measured
and fixed all the snakes and a
single adult Burt's boraas. Night drove
a total of 89.3 mi.
20 Sept. Berkeley to Corral Hollow, San Joaquin Co., and return
Left Berkeley 18:00. Hot clear day. Although
warmer than yesterday in Berkeley, it was
windy at Corral Hollow and thus cooler
than last night. At dark it did not become
humid as it did last night. Last night
I saw only a Taxidea, while tonight I
saw four Procyon and one Odocoileus.
Found 3 OR Pituophis late afternoon
before arriving I-580. Got out of car ~ 1
mi. before I-580 and hopped a fence N of the
rd. under a power line system. Dry creek
+ willows + over 100 logs. Also rock
piles. Turned about 50-60 logs - no vertebrates.
Drove until 22:00 seeing nothing past 20:55.
We saw only Pituophis early and later
picked up 5 Crotalus, all well west of I-
580. Last four snakes were Crotalus and
