Seib, R. 1981 Berkeley to Stanislaus Co., and return. 1 Aug On the Patterson Pass Rd I picked up two hatching Chrysosoma coronatum 2.1 miles before reaching Stanislaus Co. In driving the Canyon rd. I noticed a truck (pickup) driving slowly, a man, woman and young son. The boy was shooting rabbits and squirrels with a .22 rifle from the passenger window. I stopped an inquired about this. The father said his friend owned the land and that squirrels made holes that cattle fell into and resulted with broken legs. Since Proposition 13 has passed, the county no longer has money to poison the squirrels, so people shoot them as often as they can. He says he kills snakes, too, as often as he sees them. They leave all animals to die when they smell them. Return Berkeley 13:50. Berkeley to Corral Hollow, and return 4 Aug left Berkeley 18:00, sunny and warm 65-70°F with Phil Brylski, a mammalogy graduate student at M V S. We drove in his VW bug.
