23 July The moon is down so the nights are dark. I wished to learn something about snake activity at Corral Hollow this late in the summer. It happened to be a cool day in the central valley and there was a light wind. I found a single ♂ Pituophis crossing the road 1.4 mi. W F-5 at ca. 26:30, but no other signs of herps. We weight and measures taken. Specimen kept alive for feeding trials by Alan deLucio.
Berkeley to Contra Costa (b), and return
24 July Spent 2'1/2 hours driving until dusk. I drove through Golden Park to Wildcat Canyon road, across San Pablo Dam Rd to Bear Creek Rd past Briones until the road ends. From there I first went left until I reached Pinole, turned around, passed Bear Creek Rd and the Alhambra entrance to Briones and continued on until I reached Martinez. I returned to Bear Creek Rd and headed home, taking an
