Holmes, R 1960 Branta nigricans 28 June Barrow - Wainright. Barrow, Alaska Several birds seen on flight to Wainright. Most if there were individuals or pairs, while were present in small flocks and pods. 2 July Shranak, Alaska 4 seen flying north over the census plot. 10 seen in the area where they nested last year. 13 July Barrow, Alaska Makers Reynolds report one nest (at least 2 Ads + 2 young per owl nest #12 (yesterday). Today, we went back to this area & saw these 2 adults, but no chicks were seen. At our nest #6, we found a nest 35 feet from the owl mound. The 4 was incredibly when we approached, and it was not until I was only a few feet away from her that she flushed. The young[?] had just finished hatching & which we were near she flew then away slowly.(Note: let's join the group). Both birds stayed with the young after that.
