Holmes, R. 1959 Branta nigricans 17 June Colville Delta Several groups of 2 to 15 seen in this Col- vile Delta Region. A few were also seen near the Meade River 18 July Barrow, Alaska Two were noted on the small point just nw. of Skovarik Lake. 19 July Barrow, Alaska Two were seen again in the same location as above and a nest was located, on a small island. There were 3 days light tan-colored eggs which were just beginning to pip. The nest was composed of light black (gravel) down in a small depression on an island, 2' by 8'. The pond was about 30 yards long and 8 yards wide. 20 July Barrow, Alaska The nest was checked at 1000. It contained 1 young and 2 pipings eggs. The female sat tight, within 6 feet of her nest. 22 July Barrow, Alaska By 1000, the young had left the nest and could not be found in the pond. The adults were also not seen. 1 August Barrow, Alaska No sign. The birds were seen near the nest.
