1 Bird in excellent - breeding plumage seen
displaying near Volb's area in the open
grassy sedge fields. When first seen it
was feeding near a Dunlin & a Semipod.
When the Dunlin got up to display, the
Semipod did abr. Several seconds
later, the Surf-snick flew up to a
height of 20-25 feet & began < display
flight. The bird held it going very
stiff in a down curved position & rather
slow quicks or short bursts - with brief
glides inbetween. Gliding was slow
with wings held below the horizontal
& down curved tail spread slightly.
The head was held up just enough
[illegible]
To be noticeable. The shallow wingbeats were
greatly accentuated & appeared to begin
or deliberate a labored fashion. As the
bird moved in the air it evoked circle
movements & descended in altitude.
The call given was a "Shroatz" churning
note - of series character to three
