7 June Barrow, Alaska
Several Chasiq 1 displaying in drum area -
V chase give - plick, plick... or one long
more ssssssssssss - drill-like note -
After which when they are set via
wide V the bird is gliding.
On ground - 1 prep display: - 2 wing
wings held up front, tail cocked, not spread

presumably off sun

They had been feeding together for several min.
gave - short drill (mothboat type). The
it was one - in stork eg - raised 1 wing
vertical, tucked other unusually - lowered tail
& normal + pulled for about 250 - 300
+ feet - aerial display.
18 June After aerial display - bird landed, kept
wings at vertical for 1-2 sec. In display flight -
wings are definitely down-curved & quivered in that
position. The bird usually gives 8-12 rapid quivers
then glides for 1-2 sec - the quiver wings again -
usually bi-ke quivering w/ tail, falling slightly
(or at the end) to ground. Then to the
display set is a gradual descent usually at a 45°
or greater. Sometimes
climbs to 30' - people then descend. Q.
