5 June Barrow, Alaska
This seemed to be the usual semi-fledged courtship
pattern - wings up t/or folded - feathers
off. The ? - The ? does not seem to respond
in any way. The ? - except to turn
back & to fly.
6 June Birds seen heard displaying in Britton's &
Voth's Areas - as well as on the Bluffs)
surrounding Village Creek (or Slough) -
About 3.4 mi S. of Barrow - another
locality - not previously known to me.
7 June Three birds seen displaying - the Bluffs - near
Voth creek towards a gasoline from Voth Area -
all three would be in the air giving an
aerial display at the same time - but never
made contact while - the air - but once
two landed - faced each other - both with
tails cocked, wings at 45° - given the
trail. Then were chased & both left &
returned.
When these birds are on the ground -
The tail is often cocked & they frequently
give a low broken chatter-like trill.
Also when landing - The wings may be
held up at 45-60° - as above - or one
wing may be kept up & waving or even
may be extended to the side - as if
