4 June Barrow, Alaska
chase was a the ground - it kept its wings at
45°, tail cocked strongly (but not spread)
body like slightly forward. The behavior
was giving the chatter trial (again not a clear distinct
"motor"). - There is none of a purely silly case - when
is given as an introduction to the aerial display
& preliminary to the "motor-cycle"?
[illegible]
In this posture - it moved toward the feeder
? (who paid no attention) in a swaying
fashion - probably moving 30° to left
side & then back again. All the while
the bill was being given. Finally The
birds who had previously been chased -
finished displaying & returned. The
ground display - lifted both wings - low
trial & took flight - flying behavior
As of the bird - as they flew off in
a dramatic chase across the open tundra.
5 June Several pairs seen on lowland-march
habitat - SW of Britton's Area & NE of the ridge -
E of South Sall Coyson. These pairs
were doing considerable chasing among
themselves & between pairs.
