Holmes, R. 1962 Freunetes puzzles 30 may Barrow, Alaska At least 3 displaying birds were seen on the exposed tundra east of Voth's area near Voth Creek. Birds were doing short (2 min) aerial display & some chasing was noted. 1 june 2 displaying birds seen on the bluth east of Voth area. When chasing - a bird would set its wings & glide swiftly at the bird - while giving a loud musical chatter. The other bird would fly up off of it (already flying) & the display was swoop by it again. 2 june 2 see near Voth area & lower On Hais area 3 june 1 near Elson Bluffs 4 june Several pairs individuals were seen along the Voth Road (on both side & on the bluffs bordering Voth Creek - east & so. ) at mid-mid-site. One courtship act was noted. Three birds were present - apparently 2 males & 1 female. Two males were chasing - one would set his wings, glide swiftly & give hill call (not motors?) - then make rapid descent, beats & catch-up - turns - landed near bird on Ground - which other bird flew out & did a aerial display.
