Eremetes pusillus
16 June Barrow, Alaska
Two birds were seen chacing around the
beach ridge. Finally one stopped, and
the other came in next to it and
landed. Then one stood up straight
with head stretched upward, tail
down in normal position and wings
dropped. The other hunched over
+ seemed to be the aggressor one,
for it tried to peck at the upright
bird who did not fight back. During
this pecking, the upright bird remained
motionless but alert. After sec. seconds,
the aggressive bird flew off, and
the "upright" bird resumed its
normal position + began feeding. At
first, I believed this was a
territorial encounter, but the more
I watched it, the more it
seemed like some kind of pair
behaviour.
19 June - I saw the bird displaying along the
beach ridge.
23 June Ikrovile (Barrow), Alaska
I heard displaying east of the
plot near the Short Lake (Ikrovile). No others have been
seen a feed in the region during the last 2 days.
