Ereunetis pusillus
12 June Barrow, Alaska
over the tundra in and near the drum
area. A pair would race back and
forth and then settle down on a small
exposed patch of tundra. They were not
always noted using the vertical wing
landing display, but it was noted
several times. During the flight
display, they may stay at a
height of 20 to 30 feet and
never in one spot for several
seconds, the float for a
second - two and then hover
again. At the end of the display,
they glide at an angle towards
the ground and alight with
up-held wings. The wings are then
slowly pulled down into normal
position. During this gliding the
wings are held at a slight
angle. Both the chase and
the flight display are accompanied
by the constant chattering
note. This note may become faster
or slower, but is usually
kept at a constant rate.
